We believe that the performing arts have the power to touch and change the human soul. All of us can recall specific times when a song, a picture, or an illustration deeply moved us and tapped right into our very hearts. The performing arts use all three of these mediums and thereby become all that more effective.

We also believe that the arts were God’s idea! He is the Creator of everything that is beautiful, wonderful, and true. We believe that when it comes to building lives that honor God, the arts must be embraced and supported as indispensable.

Unfortunately a lot of Christians are addicted to mediocrity when it comes to planning church services and reaching the unsaved. In some extreme cases, well-meaning, but sadly legalistic Christians believe that the arts are too “worldly” and too risky to tamper with. We think otherwise.

We believe that God has always created from what was in His imagination and that the arts reflect one of a myriad of gifts that God has entrusted to us to use for His glory. We are committed to not neglecting or abandoning the arts because their proper use will always glorify the Master Artist.

We do not see the arts as merely entertainment but a vehicle to promote Biblical truths. When the creative arts work in conjunction with truths from the Word of God the whole world will sit up and take notice. We believe that God can unleash His power through our imaginations in amazing ways if we plan our work and work our plan according to His Word.

The mission statement of our school begins by stating that “Monterey Bay Academy is committed to excellence in communicating Jesus Christ…” This is what we believe the arts are ultimately intended to do. This is what Impressions is committed to do through the vehicle of the performing arts. We are committed to excellence in promoting things that Jesus would have us promote. Excellence is not perfectionism or the prideful exclusion of others. Excellence is doing the best we can with what we have. It is refusing to drift into a lazy complacent attitude that puts Christ last rather than best in our endeavors. We want to make an impression for Jesus. We will always speak the truth with love. We choose not to be defensive when confronted by legalists that want to destroy what God has given us. We will pray with them and for them, but will not compromise what we believe God would have us do.

As directors, actors, and technicians we are unabashedly committed to choosing variety over predictability; encounters with God over glitz and glitter; Godliness over giftedness; and God’s leadings over man-made tradition. We want to give God the best that we can possibly offer. We realize we will never perfectly do this, but our goal is to devote our talents fully to God. We do this with sober minds, willing hearts, and adventurous spirits. We believe that God will bless us on our journey to serve Him and make an Impression on you. Faces
